This beautiful tray was crafted in Pilimathalawa, and shows the fantastic brass craftsmanship that the area is known for. In the centre, it carries lion and elephant motifs regarded as symbols of strength and nobility. The surrounding border is known as pala-peti and is a popular foliage pattern in Sinhala crafts. The outer border of lotus flower petals is usually reserved for objects with ritual or important usage.
